40 MAN ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH
We get a video package highlighting random numbers of the Rumble, such as number of competitors, their combined weight, and other useless factoids. I feel as though I should go ahead and get this out of the way before the match starts, but it’s obvious that this will be hectic and difficult to cover, so please bear with me, and I will do my best to keep up. Justin Roberts announces this as the biggest Rumble match in history, then gives a quick run down of the rules, for those fans out there that may not be in the know. The man who drew number one is the leader of the Nexus himself, CM Punk.
The second man in the Royal Rumble, and the man who, along with Punk, has the highest mountain to climb, is Ezekial Jackson, and Wade Barett? and Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater are ringside. All four men make their way onto the apron and all four men begin wailing on Punk. The rest of the New Nexus make their way down to the ring, and a brawl ensues as everyone begins brawling around the ringside area, but this match hasn’t even started as Cole gets another e-mail.
The GM is ordering the officials to restore order, and stop the men in the ring. Cole says the only man with the right to be in the ring right now is CM Punk and everyone else must return to the locker room immediately, and failure to comply will result in disqualification from the Rumble match. Everyone does indeed make their way to the back, arguing all the way.
The real #2 entrant will be Daniel Bryan, and ROH fans everywhere are wetting themselves over this first period. The bell rings and Punk locks in a headlock. Bryan fights out but Punk hits a clothesline. Bryan hits a single leg dropkick, backflips over Punk, and hits a nice running forearm. Bryan shoulders Punk and tries to take him over, but it’s blocked. Punk knocks Bryan out to the apron, but Bryan comes back in with a springboard dropkick. Bryan goes for a dropkick in the corner, but Punk avoids it.
#3 is Justin Gabriel
Gabriel goes right after CM Punk and he and Punk trade blows. Punk is able to backdrop Gabriel to the apron. Bryan attacks Punk from behind. Gabriel goes for the 450, but Punk rolls out of the way. Bryan hits a back suplex sending Gabriel to the outside.
Justin Gabriel is eliminated.
#4 is Zack Ryder
Ryder comes into the ring and takes it to both Punk and Bryan right off the bat.

The contest is “How well do you know your pro?”
Next up was what the pros think would be the rookie’s future outside of sports entertainment. Bateman answered the next Steve Blackman. Bryan had the same thing written down. This is about as rigged as the NBA draft lottery. Brodus and DiBiase also meshed with a “bodyguard” answer.
Backstage, Brodus Clay entered Ted DiBiase all fired up. DiBiase got in his face and told him he has to work on listening. After Clay left the room, DiBiase and Maryse bickered…
Derrick Bateman and Daniel Bryan beat Ted DiBiase and Brodus Clay (w/Maryse) in 4:35. Grisham noted that Maryse was too busy texting to care what DiBiase was doing. Mathews said he would bet a billion dollars that DiBiase would not win the Royal Rumble match.
Dolph Ziggler started taunting Bryan over a mic that the live crowd could hear, but didn’t come through on the feed well. One of the announcers noted that he told Bryan to tap out when Brodus had him in a hold. DiBiase ordered Brodus to tag him into the match. Brodus wasn’t happy, but he complied.
Bateman tagged in and hit a flurry of offense on DiBiase, who came back with a boot to the head. Ted walked to the corner and jawed at Clay for no apparent reason. Clay dropped off the apron. Bateman rolled up DiBiase and got the 1-2-3. Maryse was laughing. The announcers again questioned why DiBiase would think he had any chance of winning the Rumble match…
Those spoken to within WWE aren’t aware if there is any particular incident or reason that Ted DiBiase isn’t receiving a stronger push on television. However, more than one person feels Maryse is struggling to work as an effective valet. One source indicated that the former glamour model appears much more concerned with drawing attention to herself and getting herself over rather than enhancing DiBiase’s matches and overall presentation.

Johnny Curtis (w/R-Truth) defeated Ted DiBiase (w/Maryse, Brodus Clay) in 9:15. It sounded like a tennis match during the opening match when the announces were quiet because the fans were dead silent. The announcers said something about there being another month and a half left in this horrible competition. They mocked the idea that it was going to be going on that long.
Mathews predicted that O’Brian will be the next person eliminated from the competition. Based on what they were setting up with Ricardo Rodriguez, that’s probably the case. DiBiase gave the rookie plenty of offense and a good near fall down the stretch. Maryse stood on the apron, and Clay reached up and took a shot at Curtis.
R-Truth nailed Brudus Clay. DiBiase was distracted by the fighting. Curtis rolled up DiBiase and got the 1-2-3. One of the announcers said he thinks Curtis saved himself from elimination…
